Even when they asked me to switch to make party songs cus my style doesn't fit Nigeria styles... Still on my feet, But now am a "Legend"- Banky W

Nigerian singer, King of RnB Banky wellington wrote this to motivate his followers and good
Nigerians never to photocopy others and be yourself..

So in the spirit of #NoteverytimeJimJimPa.. we just shot the video to #loveUbaby and it got me reminiscing a bit.
I moved back home to Lagos on Valentine's day 2008. At the time, soooo many people would listen to my music, and say "it's good o, but this style of music no fit work for Nigeria/Africa". I heard it over and over again.. that our people only like party music and not all this slow, r&b ish.
At the time People ACTUALLY advised me to be more like Dbanj, PSquare etc, and switch to make party songs that sound like theirs.
Now, truth be told, I love party music as much as anyone else. Nobody can turn up like me. Fact. But I think there's also a place for the more soulful side of life too. At the end of the day, if you start tryna be like everyone else, at best you'll just be an imitation, and when people are looking for that, they will go to the originators. On my best day I can never be Dbanj, Psquare, 2face, Timaya etc. They're absolute legends and great at what they do. But on their best day, they can't be me either.
So I stuck with being me, in the hopes that enough people would eventually get it so I could carve out a career. And here we are almost 10 yrs later, thanks to God and the fans that gave me a listening ear.

Now there's a whole new generation of Afro-R&B/Pop/Soul artists who are conquering the world & elevating the soulful African sound so much higher. Big ups to the Nonso Amadi's, Odunsi's, Praiz's etc of the game.

The point is.. find what you love, and do exactly what YOU want to do, not what anyone else thinks you should. It's too much work tryna pretend to be someone else. Be yourself... everyone else is taken anyway. It just might work out in your favour & you will be much happier.

#loveUbaby video coming soon. Enjoy this throwback of me vibing to it a few months ago before a show. U can download the full song (produced by the KING @cobhamsasuquo) off iTunes, Music Plus and every other platform. And good luck to you in your journey.
PS I hope you like this song enough to make room on your playlist for it. Afterall, there's absolutely #NothingWrongWithTurnUpMusic but #noteverytimeJimJimPa #TheBankStatements 😁🕺🏽😊
